A salient quote from an article at the time:

"It makes me sick,'' said Alvara Velez, an industrial-engineering student from Colombia. ``I come from what they call a Third World country. People there riot because they're hungry, because they want jobs. Up here, it's just a bunch of drunks.''

I lived in State College at the time and a number of idiots--overwhelmingly white idiots--complained that the town had become a police state because they weren't allowed to destroy cars and businesses and streetlights and property.
