General Discussion
In reply to the discussion: I wonder how African American members of DU feel about the following post [View all]MadDAsHell
(2,067 posts),with virtually no filter, this mythic "open and honest discussion about race" that everyone claims they want to have.
Do I feel this individual is overgeneralizing? Yes.
Do I feel this individual is probably not a minority and thus is making assumptions about African Americans without any firsthand experience to back it up? Yes.
But do I also feel that we as liberals are pretty disingenuous about our desire to have an open and honest discussion about race, as most of us clearly have no plans to let anyone speak their honest opinion on race if it offends us, we suspect it may offend others, or we don't like what the statistics are hinting at? ABSOLUTELY.
As evidenced by the OP's rhetoric, there sometimes seems to be a blind assumption on DU that every African-American is anti-police, that every African-American feels the world is against them, and that every African-American wants white people to feel sorry for them. That's the real offense.
