(33,992 posts)During the busy time, in order to keep up we often had to put in extra hours. We were permitted to clock those hours, as a draw against our commission, but encouraged not to because it would decrease our commission check. At the end of the season, you got paid your commission, less any draw. But they didn't make you return the draw since it represented minimum wage for the hours you worked. The first year I decided to clock all my hours, since I wanted to ensure I got paid at least minimum wage. I didn't get a commission check that year. Not even close. The dead time leading up to around January 15 & between February 15th and April 1, when someone had to be working even if no clients walked in the door, ate up any potential commission. So - those individuals who didn't clock the hours they actually worked during the busy times may have gotten a commission, but they almost certainly weren't paid minimum wage.
This system sounds a bit different, since the draw is lower than minimum wage, but still with hours off the clock.
