Our homicidal cops are creating the next John Allen Muhammed [View all]
The so-called DC sniper set up in a van at night and randomly killed or wounded ten people in three weeks.
Some fine day, our out-of-control dirty cops will kill the relative or friend of a former US military sniper in Iraq or Afghanistan, and he will go on a spree of sniping at cops, most of whom probably never did any wrong.
Failure to indict the bad cops could well end up being a death sentence for some good ones--which, in turn, will probably end up being a death sentence for more unarmed innocents, and so on, and so on, and so on. I get why Washington has been so slow to react--they think each new episode will be the last, and that cops will have learned from all the bad press. The trouble is that if the bad cops are always made to feel they've done nothing wrong, they will learn only that nothing will come it if they murder an innocent. The Department and the DA have their backs. At some point, a well-armed citizen (and the NRA has made sure the USA is full of them) with a grudge, serious sniper training and nothing to lose will feel a need--and a justification--for what he sees as justified revenge.
German and French TV (I saw a lot of both this week, and speak both languages) have had intense, extensive reports about the recent police murders in the USA. The whole world is watching. I don't know how much longer our "authorities" can afford not to care.
