You don't get it, and I fear that you will never get it.

The first one, you say is just insensitive. That's all. Not racist. Just insensitive.

Now onto the second link. The word "nigger" was used specifically to grab people's attention and bring them into the post. I completely understand that the post was about something quite the opposite. But to edit the post... Not to remove the word "nigger" from the title, but to have a white person explain why there is nothing wrong with her particular "use" of the word because she has a black husband and bi-racial children. She says that she does not use the word. But guess the fuck what? She did. It's right fucking there in the title of her OP. She used the fucking word that on edit she said that she did not use!

I did not miss the point of that post whatsoever. I got it. Some white lady used the word nigger to get people to read her post. Yes what those offers were saying was horrible. Yes the message that she wanted to get out there should be posted for the world to see. But to do so with such a racist term in order to do nothing more than to get people to click on her post is disingenuous at best and downright racist at worst.

You don't get it. IT IS SHIT LIKE THIS THAT MAKES DU REALLY FUCKING SUCK SOMETIMES. The nonchalant attitude towards racism.

Let me try and break down that poster's explanation for you...
"Racists should not be able to be police officers, and especially not in areas that are majority POC. I can't even get my head around this kind of blind hatred." - I cannot believe that someone who would say: I hate niggers. That is all., could be a police officer, let alone in areas where people of color are the majority. I should share this information. How to do it? Hmmm? I know, I title the post "I hate niggers. That is all.", but I'll put quotes around it, because that makes it okay.

"I am a white woman." - Using the word nigger to get people to click on my post.

"My husband is a POC, and our children are bi-racial. - So I can say nigger with quotes.

"I do not use the word, nor does anyone in my family - and that includes all of my extended family. - Nope not me... Never use the word. Not ever... Unless it's in quotes, just so I can get people to read my post.

"I have been fighting against racism since I was a kid, and long before I had any personal stake in the issue. But now? Now, my children's lives are on the line, and I want it out there. I want people to see what these people are saying behind closed doors and amongst themselves. They don't have the nerve to say it to our faces, but I will hold them accountable for saying it anywhere and to anyone. - A sincere and honest plea... I'll file it under "I hate niggers. That is all.", so the people can hear my plea.

"This has been sent to jury twice now, and has been voted on to be left alone, twice." - Because the majority of the community on DU are okay with casual racism.

If it offends you so much that you can't even focus on the real issue - police discrimination against POC - then I suggest that you find another cause to fight for, because this one is going to roll you over if that's all it takes to get you to the point of disgust and disengagement." - Because if my use of the word nigger that I never use (except when I'm using it), offends you, obviously you don't care about police discrimination. Because the two are mutually exclusive.
