11. gravity and body position

The horizontal blood trail would be caused by him having his head lowered (as in his face parallel to the ground) which tells me that witnesses that saw him on top of Martin were correct and it was this position that caused the horizontal blood trail. The vertical trails would be caused when he stood up and lifted his head up so that gravity then caused the blood to flow vertically down toward his neck.

Because it's a scalp wound and he has hair stubble, the blood would follow the line of least resistance through the stubble after he stood up and lifted his head by following the previous horizontal trail and then dripping downward toward his neck where ever it found a line of least resistance through the hair stubble.
