(10,893 posts)this thread still alive and kicking, and not sinking. I showed it to my sister last night. She thought it was an interesting read, and was joking around about how it's such an odd combination for some people on a political board to be "ultra-liberal, yet racist". I couldn't agree more. When I first joined in April 2012, I never thought I'd see the amount of political ignorance and disconnect regarding social issues that a handful of DUers appear to display. This was the type of stuff I was trying to get away from on YouTube and elsewhere. I still like DU, but I now sort of understand why she never wanted to join. Like an earlier poster stated, DU is almost like the left's FreeRepublic. While DU does have stricter rules overall and many DUers seem like friendly and reasonable folks, the two are somewhat alike in the sense that it has some hyperbole, litmus tests, a handful of posters displaying ignorance of the checks-and-balances system, and some dismissing social concerns.
