10. What always boggles me is how

"Useless eaters" or "death panels" or even "right to life" will become Right Wing cause celebres when at the root of their ideology is social darwinism. View the man behind the curtain, and it's just the darwinian grind, down to a cold, hard nub. But it's decorated in a lot of touchy feely crap to sell it to the religious folk.

I got news for you people: the hard competition of social darwinism means you have to do something with the losers. And if you are rigging the game or playing on an uneven field, the losers are going to keep questioning why they even have to play on your terms.

The opposite of social darwinism, as you point out in your post is Civilization. It is at last acknowledging that each human being we allow into this world has worth and dignity in themselves, and imposing suffering by depriving them of basic necessities is a form of torture. We Americans don't torture do we? (Oops, Torture Report.)

Anyway, we need to make the deliberate, conscious choice to build Civilization.

Perhaps some day we will.
