30. The NRA used to be completely apolitical.

Their lobbying and activism was a result of historically recent gun control efforts.

Even now, the NRA supports and endorses some pro-2A Democrats. If the majority of our party believed in a liberal interpretation of the 2A as they do with the rest of the Constitution and positions we held in years past, the NRA and its affiliates would happily return to being just a simple firearm safety and sporting organization.
