'The Interview' To Be Available For Online Rental Starting Today [View all]
Following confirmation that Sony will, in fact, be showing the controversial Seth Rogen film The Interview in select theaters starting Christmas day, it is now being reported that the film will also be available to rent or buy via online outlets like Youtube and X-Box Video starting today at 1 p.m. EST.
According to CNNs Brian Stelter, Sony has confirmed that the movie, which stars Rogen and James Franco as reporters who travel to North Korea to assassinate Kim Jong-un, will be made available online today. Sony CONFIRMS: "The Interview" will be available for rental through YouTube, Google Play, Microsoft's Xbox Video, etc. TODAY. At 1pm ET, Stelter tweeted. You can rent it for $6. You can buy it for $15.
The film was originally set for a wide Christmas day release, but many theaters began to pull it from their schedule when a group of hackers responsible for the recent cyberattack against Sony threatened to target movie theaters across the country if the movie was released. The threat included references to the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks.
It is widely believed that the North Korean government was behind the cyberattack and the subsequent threats, despite the country denying involvement.
