Mr. Drysdale all you want, but Clampett sure did seem smug to me and millions of others.

I guess you stopped watching TV in 1995 or so (oh wait - you're probably one of those who
claims they've never watched TV, right?)

MTV Cribs.
Real Housewives of _____.
The Kardashians.
Millionaire Matchmaker.

All far more recent than what you cited, all intimately concerned with wealth and its display.
Why aren't those pushing people over the edge?
