Get ready for the reich wing hysterics. Pope Francis + Climate Change [View all]

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Sissyk (a host of the General Discussion forum).

Yep. The Reich Wing will be in a lather now. Pope Francis has decided to wade into the climate change discussion and he is not a denier
Next year he will have all the Churches give a message to the congregants that will be read at all the Catholic churches worldwide
The Pope will also publish an Encyclical on Climate Change and Human Ecology
He will encourage Catholics to take on the issue as both a moral and scientific issue
He will also speak with other leaders of different faiths to get them on board (So to speak) as well as lobby global political leaders
According to Bishop Sorondo the Vatican's Head of Academy of Sciences, the Pope wants to influence the UN Climate Meeting in Paris

Opposition within the church is said to come from two quarters
1. Clerics and other religious like the former Archbishop of Sydney, the fairly vile Cardinal George Pell. An uber conservative cardinal on almost every issue, who also is a climate skeptic. His vast background of nothing in science has told him that global warming has ceased and that plants would love the doubling of carbon dioxide.
2. Politicians, like John Boehner and man on dog Santorum who are both Catholics and both global climate change deniers.

And of course, people not in the Church, like Pat Robertson, Sen Inhofe and the rest of the cast from Clueless Meet the Stupids.

Papal Encyclicals are very rare. So it's a pretty big deal.
