280. Were you on the operation up to Quang Tri in December '69?

Our normal AO was in Thua Thien Province, but in December they had an NVA regiment that crossed the DMZ on a mission to attack the city of Quang Tri. We were told that the NVA got into terrain that the 5th Mech, stationed at the Z, couldn't get into with their tracks, so they wanted an airmobile bn to go after them and they called us.

They took us up to Quang Tri on C-130s and from there we did a bn-sized combat assault on Hueys with Cobra escort. I'd never seen an entire bn in the air before, and I took lots of pics. Unfortunately, my camera and all my pics of that op were destroyed when I went through too many stream crossings.

In case you haven't heard it enough from us in the Infantry, we love you guys! Both the Hueys and the Cobras saved my bacon too many times to count.

And I can't help being jazzed by your moving to Cobras. God, I loved those sleek and deadly bastards.
