(17,997 posts)I would like to add that I find it hilarious that people actually complain about people of color "assimilating" or "appropriating" or whatever the hell you want to call it. I also find it hilarious that anyone can dictate to anyone else what they're allowed to be upset about.
It's quite like someone saying, "I really can't stand you but don't take that personally."
People bitch and moan about other people who have anything but English as a first language, and other similar things. They complain that any immigrant is even here, except for their own family. Those are usually the same people who don't want people of color to "act white" and don't think there's anything wrong with taking parts of a culture, that they often can't even admit is a separate culture, E.G. "you're people have been here for 300 years so it's American culture. You don't own it."
Most importantly, I find it absolutely reprehensible and complete and total bullshit that any person, with an I.Q. over 50, has the audacity to say that a person of color, especially a black person, does not suffer oppression in the USA. Any person that discounts that unique experience, and it is nothing that any white person could ever imagine, and tries to tell a person of color how they should react, act or that the experience is the same for all, is a liar and/or as dumb as they come.
Not here on DU, of course.
