(7,908 posts)Giuliani's "Broken Window" policing policy when it helped de Blasio's real estate developer benefactors to gentrify the Park Slope neighborhood), but I think Bratton to his credit has openly condemned the actions of those NYPD cops who turned their backs on de Blasio. The question, of course, is whether oral condemnation by the Chief suffices or whether there should be further material consequences for this act of grandstanding and what another DUer called a 'petulant tantrum.'
My personal reservations about de Blasio don't really matter either, as he was elected by an overwhelming majority of New Yorkers and the will of the voters easily trumps any of my petty cavils. Given that, when the NYPD turns its back on de Blasio, it is turning its back on democracy and the will of the voters, as Charlie Pierce so eloquently noted a week ago.
