3. It depends what state you're in

Mostly on whether it's a judicial or non-judicial foreclosure state, and also on the backlog. I was told I had until January 10th, 2011 to bring my payments current or they were beginning the foreclosure on my house in NJ, and they've just filed now for the judgement. If you google the foreclosure timeline for you're state, you should be able to get a reasonable idea of what you're actually looking at. Have you asked about applying for a mod? I know a few people that wanted to stay in their houses who bought time that way. Good luck, I hope everything works out well with the new job and the house.
