(38,613 posts)5. The substituting of arguments with epithets is my #1 gripe about DU.
I can halfway deal with it if someone throws a name out while they're making an argument, but name-calling as the entire argument drives me crazy, and the possibility of it does affect my behavior sometimes. There are some topics I won't post in because of this.
The only reason for someone to use this tactic is to silence the person it's being used on, and derail the discussion. I call it "disruption" even if I agree with the person doing it.
