2. With all the attacks I don't blame the flt attendants.

However, I can also understand the airline perspective. To amass 13 new attendants on the spur of the moment is almost impossible, and not only would the entire system be in turmoil, but you'd also have a plane full of irate flyers.

I think, if the techs on the ground thoroughly checked the plane, they should have trusted them to find any problems. My guess is this was the work of some less than intelligent baggage handler, or other low level employee who had access to the plane who thought he/she was being funny. Hopefully the airline is checking on how this could have happened and who did it.
