4. I wouldn't blame "repuke owned media" -- mass media generally go for what's unusual

Paris is, objectively, a safer place than a part of Nigeria where the religious fanatics aren't just a few gunmen but instead a large and well-equipped army. Most news editors, regardless of party, would see the Paris attack as more surprising.

The editors would also believe, with justification, that Americans will care more about violence against middle-class whites in a Western country, because we can more readily identify with the victims. To that extent, yes, it's an indication that the media care less about African lives, but that tendency is seen in the mass media in general.
