Chris was only 57 and has been fighting cancer, on and off, for almost 20 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, teacher, and the most amazing sister anyone could ever hope to have. Chris was one of those rare individuals who helped and even improved just about every single life she touched.
And she was a fighter. She held on so much longer than anyone ever expected. Our pleas for her to let go were met with "But I'm not READY to die!" But, at about 2am, yesterday morning, she did finally surrender to the inevitable.
So please allow me to quote a slightly abreviated and altered portion of a Dylan Thomas poem, substituting my sister for his father, because she did not go gentle into that good night.
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my *sister, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. -
