(43,387 posts)42. so play "what if" with me
...when he said "I can honestly say that nothing good has ever come from me telling the truth or doing the right thing".
What if this world was nothing more than a "test kitchen" for people to try out behaviors, or play out scenarios (for the purpose of seeing who has character and who doesn't). What if, like Shakespeare said, "all the world's a stage?"
Nobody really knows what the nature of existence is, but this is one theory, and I happen to like it.
Sure, the environment we live in doesn't reward honesty or ethics. In fact, as you say, it's almost a "quaint concept." However, you get to go to bed at night with the knowledge that you've not harmed anyone. You can sleep. You have a clear conscience. Furthermore, you've taken on the Christie Crime site, which educates others. You've done a lot in the face of this evil.
Christie, on the other hand...
And don't say he doesn't "sweat it." He confessed on a radio program that he's had many sleepless nights. He knows he's a scumbag.

Thanks. Your story about his speech on ethics is so personal and so compelling.
