(34,648 posts)Everything you just said and more. My grandmama scrubbed the floors at the beer garden in Pittsburg. Her pay was nearly nothing, but, she managed to pick up all if the loose change while she was scrubbing away, to buy her 10 kids shoes for school. The Jewish Charity helped her, NOT AMERICA. When her house burned down they let her move her kids into a huge house that they stayed in until my uncle robbed a bank. Oops. He just wanted to help, though. Life was rough.
My generation got to finish High School, spend a bit of time in college. No endless suffering. Thanks to one woman, who was 4'9" and 85 pounds. She scrubbed the entire neighborhood and the went to her second job at the laundry. I have it sooo easy. I don't even work unless I want extra money just for me. Maybe next year I'll work. Nobody in my family ever got a choice like me.
