(14,162 posts)but he did make one very difficult decision that started a chain reaction that is evident to this day, and in this post. I fall short of calling it a mistake because I'm not sure there was any other choice he could have made. During WWII he chose to give the military contracts to the largest and most powerful corporations and allowed the powerful contractors to swallow up smaller companies for the manufacturing of military weaponry making many companies into huge corporations without competition and that could wield great power. I have a feeling he didn't mean for that to last after the war but the military-industrial complex was formed, Eisenhower warned us about it, and we have it to this day. Most of the names of those few corporations are the same today as they were then.
It's an unfortunate outcome of that war I'm afraid, but I still think he was one of the greatest presidents.
