You've given a couple of very good reasons why criminals don't use automatics in this country that much. Add to that the risk of serving a long prison sentence just for having an unregistered auto in your possession.
On the other hand, it's fairly easy to legally purchase a semi-auto WASR-10 and 30 round magazines and you don't have to worry (in most states) about being arrested for having it.
