In reply to the discussion: Norwegian student risks 35 years in jail in the US - made a wrong turn [View all]obamanut2012
(29,194 posts)Especially if there was the underlying factor that he was on Oxy or some other medication, scripted or not.
He had been in the US for over ten years, so his original quite good English would be even better. There was no not understanding directions nor not being able to read road signs.
I would like to see the charge sheet and the tox reports, and any priors charge sheets.
The OP's info and the many new Norwegian posters are not presenting an unbiased account. Mr. Larsgard seems like a sketchy fellow to me, including his stalking incident and his being kicked out of the U of M for threatening faculty. Our Norwegian members are buying their own media's spin: white Northern Europeans are not kicked out of US universities for being "suspected terrorists." They are for threatening behavior, as well they should be.
Also, it is illegal to keep prisoners in restraints while in their cells unless they are a danger to themselves or an extreme danger to jail or prison personal. Even then, they are not kept in shackles and cuffs 24/7. Not even in Arizona.
Mr. Larsgard may be a legitimate victim, but we have no way of knowing that from the info we have. I agree with Msanthrope upthread and am skeptical to his side of the account. I would like to see more info first.
Also, I find it interesting that the Norwegian Consulate has given him zero help in this matter.
