(26,082 posts)It's probably happened throughout history, but know for myself it was rampant in the 60's and 70's when I didn't have a car and walked or rode bikes everywhere in the city. I'd always have to change, put on a high necked top and go from shorts to jeans, mini dress to maxi dress, or I'd pay the price. Even completely covered up from neck to toes, I'd still get harassed sometimes, but when I went somewhere downtown quickly, without thinking about what i was wearing, oh Lord did I pay the price in embarrassment and getting hit on. One time a guy grabbed me and was dragging me to his car, while I was screaming, and trying to pull away. Luckily there was a good cop around who pulled him off at gunpoint and cuffed him. I decided that my safety and peace of mind was more important than not adding to pollution so got a car the next day. This was in San Jose California in 1971
