Lesbian Scout leader ousted in Ohio; parents upset [View all]

The Boy Scouts' removal of a lesbian den mother in Ohio is re-igniting the debate over the group's ban on gays.

Parents in the town of Bridgeport are rallying behind her and want her brought back.

They say they knew that Jennifer Tyrell (TUH'rehl) is gay, but it didn't matter to them because she was doing a great job.

The Scouts say that as a private organization they have a right to exclude gays — and atheists, for that matter — from their ranks. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the ban 12 years ago.
