It’s church night!

From the bizarre and wacky world of religion comes yet more tales of ignorance, bigotry, and overflowing stupidity. For example, a Catholic priest, new to San Francisco and no stranger to controversy, has banned girls from acting as altar servers at Mass, a decision that sets his parish apart from all others in the archdiocese. The Rev. Joseph Illo, pastor at Star of the Sea Church since August, said he believes there is an “intrinsic connection” between the priesthood and serving at the altar — and because women can’t be priests, it makes sense to have only altar boys. “Intrinsic connection.” Uh . . . is that the only reason, Rev?

Also, a new faith and morals clause for Catholic schoolteachers in the Diocese of Oakland, California, implies that teachers who are gay, have sex outside marriage or use birth control could be fired. Okay, but how about those pedophilic priests? Can they be fired? LOL!
