44. It's called Habituation...

and it's not only stupid and dangerous for the humans, it's bad for the bears in so many ways.

I work in a NP during the summer and give bear safety talks three times a day to park visitors. The well worn cliche that is truth to fools is, "A fed bear is a DEAD bear."

Bears, as do other wild animals, learn tricks with treats. You give bears treats and they learn the trick that humans have food and sometimes the food is human.

There were probably a number of scavengers working on that carcass... er, cadaver if there's nothing left but bones and some inedible clothing. Black bears are more likely to kill and eat you than grizzlies but they are both known to eat people, we are made out of meat after all.

Regardless of whether she wanted to go that way or not, her stupidity will likely result in several bears being put down for becoming habituated. It's what happens when bears beat up or kill humans, or are suspected of doing so.

Looks like her ignorance will end up killing the bears she loved.

I find it really upsetting, for the bears' sake.
