(26,525 posts)now that my 'HAWKS are about to create their legacy, I'm so in! (and was of course last year and 2005, whenever our previous one was).
For those who don't live in the Pacific Northwest - Washington state especially - you can't imagine how this feels, how pumped we are.
So many story lines:
*Paul Allen (he of Microsoft fame) keeping the team in Seattle when an LA grifter tried to move it there several years ago
*5'10" QB Russell Wilson, outdoing the skeptics and naysayers. And oddly, even though he's a heavy "Jesus freak," it's a live and let live attitude I, a Pagan Humanist, feel toward him. He also lost his dad 4 years ago, so he's fighting his own battles.
*Pete Carroll, who was fired by the Pats only to be replace by Bellichek.
*The 'Hawks - a team who joined in the expansion and has never gotten the respect they deserve!
*The truly meaningful contributions team members are making in their communities.
*Legacy team the Pats facing new legacy takeovers the Seahawks!!
*The relationship between this team and their fans - like no other in the NFL.
*Marshawn Lynch. Need I say more.
I just heard Manager John Schneider talk about how the spirit of positivity and pulling together and always striving to be better than the day before has not only taken over the team, but is infecting the region. So cool and so true. And so CORNY!
It's very interesting sociologically how this works - a team and its supporters. It probably brings in some themes I can't really subscribe to, like tribalism and nationalism. I can't really explain it, but I know it is real.
And I'm glad our team is the ragtag bunch of underappreciated overachievers that it is. They have my heart!
