69. What an extremely simplistic view

Ritualized violence? Football players have more layers of padding and protection than pretty much any sport short of fencing. And the rules of the game have made it you can barely tackle anyone without some sort of penalty. Every sport has players that sustain injuries. Show me one that doesn't? Baseball, NBA, Hockey, Soccer??

Yes the Super Bowl is extreme commercialism. But what the heck isn't? Heck church is commercial (Christmas), politics is commercial (billions in ad spending and PACS), etc. Times Square in NYC is sickening commercial.

That doesn't mean I can't sit down and enjoy a football game with friends.
