I also gave calls to both Oregon congressman Peter DeFazio's office and Oregon Senator Merkley's office.
I thanked Peter DeFazio on his discussion of concerns about TPP in places like Thom Hartmann's show, etc. and asking for it to get more publicity.
Senator Merkley's office noted that he's always been against Free Trade legislation. They did note that he's "looking at" what's being put in front of him for this fast track authority. I told him of our state resolution and told him (and also told DeFazio's office) to remind Senator Wyden of their obligation not only to the Oregon state Democratic Party's positions but to America's and even the world's well being as well, in really pushing back on fast track legislation, that will be necessary in the Senate if we really want to stop this.
When I was being given a presentation just last week on some other topic in my work life, and in it a "TPP" entity was referenced without explaining it in detail, I made a point of asking about it afterwards what it referred to, if it was the Trans Pacific Partnership. It actually referred to something else other than the Trans Pacific Partnership, and he wasn't aware of the Trans Pacific Partnership.
When so many people out there, even very bright people, aren't aware of what Fast Track Authority is doing, and what the TPP is going to potentially do to us, and is more worried about an interception in the end zone of the Super Bowl and all of the ads showing during the game, WE ARE IN TROUBLE FOLKS! We need to tell everyone we know what this is, and try to get more people to really work to stop it.
If "Smart Track" is really a better way and smarter way for the American people to have things voted on for the TPP, then the American people deserve to know about it, and to know that it is something that we can speak on to our elected representatives as an informed public before it is enacted and put in place. Otherwise in my book it is "STUPID Track" or "EVIL Track" for most of us, even if the wealthy power elites think it is "Smart Track" for their own agendas...
