Lynch had attempted to score from the one yard line five times this season. He succeeded only once. (Over the past five years, he's been successful running the ball into the end zone from the one yard line less than half the time, making him one of the worst in the league at that particular play).

In addition, league wide, 108 passes were thrown this season when the ball was at the one yard line. Not one of them resulted in an interception. Until the 109th attempt.

That doesn't mean it was the "right" call -- the results in hindsight make it clear it wasn't. But it wasn't so obviously the "wrong" call at the time it was made.
