I agree that expanding our circle of empathy beyond myself and those like me is good for the country, as well as the rest of the planet.

I'll refrain from doing it from a "patriotic" lens, though. Patriotism, to me, is code for nationalism and patriarchy; both of which I abhor. I'll view human problems through a humanistic lens, and do better for it.
