it's a riff off a bunch of other legends and lore and traditional story-telling to begin with.
I could take snippets out of parts of it - especially song of solomon and some of the psalms - and make it say the god of that work values orgies and getting drunk.
Was just at a very pagan friend's place, who tried to give me a book.
"Too much of that Christian crap in it, even though it's very well written. It just makes you nauseated after a while."
"I'm more pagan than you," I said. "I've had enough of that drivel for seventeen lifetimes."
"Good! Let's burn it together."
Just in fun, of course, but yeah.

It is true most don't take such a vow, but Matthew 6:24 is not ambiguous on the subject
