The physical confrontation took place not too far from where the truck was parked, about four minutes after GZ saw TM near the truck during the phone conversation with the police dispatcher. It doesn't sound like TM did a lot of running away.

Most likely, though not provable, TM didn't like some asshole following him in a truck, so TM attacked GZ. Unfortunately for TM, GZ was an asshole with a gun, and it was legitimate self-defense for GZ.

Following people in trucks who you think were suspicious, especially when you can't give a good reason why you think they were suspicious, is not a nice thing to do. But it isn't the crime of the century, or really a crime at all – and it wouldn't give anybody the right to assault anybody else for the behavior.

I don't claim to know how it went down, but there was certainly not enough evidence to convict GZ.
