(62,325 posts)'nationalism' and 'patriotism' or for some childlike 'trust' in authority. And none of those instances could have occurred without enablers among the population. If more people had spoken up during those times, before it was too late, what a different world this would be.
Which is why, no matter how angry they get those who care about the civil liberties we are entitled to, like Greenwald and others, must be supported and defended, strongly.
I think that is happening now. A few years ago I was afraid they would succeed in silencing Greenwald the way they have silence others.
But I think there is a real fear growing among the people, not just of this country, but around the world, that if they don't stand up now, it may be too late.
It isn't so long ago that a huge price was paid for apathy and complacency. While some Americans may not remember or care too much about something 'so far away', others remember it well.
