In reply to the discussion: Fox: O'Reilly Didn't See Bombings In Ireland, But He Saw Photos Of Them [View all]alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)He has claimed that he was shown photos of killed nuns in El Salvador, images that were not made available to the public. He claimed that other journalists were shown these as well.
Did that really happen, either?
Who showed him these photos? For what reason? When? Whom was he with? Can they corroborate that authorities or somebody displayed images of killed nuns to American journalists, including Bill O'Reilly?
Even this claim of having been show pictures is suspect, and should be investigated fully. He has consistently claimed that he "saw" these events. In ordinary language, that means to witness in person. Now he's saying he was merely shown pictures of these events, which few native English speakers (and I use the term loosely for Levittown, Lawn Guyland) would describe as "having seen," but do we know if even this minimalist version of "to see" is true?
Here's my take: I don't think it is. I don't think the original claim of having seen is true, and I don't think the weasel word claim of having been shown photographs is true. They're neither of them true. The man is a pathological exaggerator.
