Gibbs Calls Clinton's Use of Personal E-mail 'Highly Unusual' [View all]

President Obama's first press secretary said Tuesday that Hillary Clinton's use of a personal e-mail address rather than a government account while secretary of state was “highly unusual.”

“I think it’s something that they’re going to have to explain in good measure today and probably figure out how to get a lot of those e-mails, or as many as they can back into the archive,” Robert Gibbs said on the Today show.

He said administration officials receive “lots of briefings” about the need for government correspondence to be available for archiving. Clinton served as Obama's top diplomat from 2009 to 2013.

The New York Times first reported Monday that Clinton, an all-but-certain president candidate, used a personal e-mail account, potentially in violation of records policies.
