23. I think Bartleby simply was inept in the use of the new technology. He couldn't admit that, since

even kids are literally wizards in the use of all this new technical stuff. So rather than ask for some training, which might have made him look sort of unfit for the job, in his opinion, not necessarily anyone else's, he simply chose to say he 'would prefer' to use his own. email. That way he looked like he was in command of the situation.
