In March 2013, Justin Harris shared photos of the newly adopted girls on some of his social media accounts – the photos have since been deleted. By October of that same year, for an unknown reason, the Harrises decided they didn’t want the girls they adopted anymore, so they decided to “rehome” them, which means they legally gave the girls to another family – Eric and Stacey Francis. Eric Francis, who had worked as head teacher at Harris’ Growing God’s Kingdom Preschool, was charged with sexually assaulting the oldest adopted daughter in April 2014.

After the Arkansas Times reported this story on *March 4, 2015, journalist Benjamin Hardy wrote a follow-up article dated March 5, 2015 titled Rep. Nate Bell blasts adoption story before seeing it; ‘rehoming’ bill introduced. Hardy explained his initial article received a lot of attention on social media, noting that people are outraged at the idea that adopted children can be handed off to another family with no consequences for the parents.
