I spent a year of my military service in South Korea as an intelligence operative. There is no doubt that NK has earned it's title as the most isolated country in the world.

Imagine the most fundamental indoctrination you can. You're probably still nowhere close to what happens in NK. From birth to grave, the people of NK are inundated with the idea that their leader(s) are living gods and that without them, horrible things would happen. In school, at work, in their personal lives, the people of NK are fed a non-stop diet of state-issued propaganda and there is practically no contact with the world outside. No TV, no radio, no internet - beyond what the state wants them to see.

So it's really not a matter of whether North Koreans believe this crap. Its all they have. They believe it because they don't have anything else to believe in. They don't know of anything else to believe in.
