82. In HS I was a finalist for the AFS Student Abroad Program

A girl I had dated beat me out and was selected to go to Japan. But it turned out that they didn't have enough home placements, and she didn't get to go. So she did it on her own during college.

I did study Spanish and learned a little Vietnamese from rooming with a Vietnamese officer in Army training and from serving in-country.

I was Medevac'd to an Army ICU in Japan, but only for a week, and all I remember is seeing the beautiful snow-covered mountains from the bus windows.
