Israeli gunboats have shelled the coast of southern Gaza City overnight but no injuries were reported, eyewitnesses said Tuesday.

The Israeli vessels fired five shells late Monday at Al-Zahraa coast in southern Gaza City, but the shells hit an empty land, the witnesses told The Anadolu Agency.

The firing came three days after a 34-year-old Palestinian fisherman died of wounds he sustained when Israel's navy opened fire on fishing boats off the coast of Gaza.

The Israeli navy routinely opens fire on Palestinian fishing boats on the pretext that they are fishing in unauthorized waters.
