except insofar as I'm a member of the same species, and what they did diminishes all of humanity.

I do, however, sincerely hope that at least some of them might develop an awareness of the enormity of what they did, do some act of public restitution, and sincerely and humbly repent. We know it's possible, and has happened many times.
