I don't date, so I don't really know.
I've hung out with many different people however, so in general we do not talk about politics till we're much closer.

Otherwise, if it is a gathering where it is understood, that such is the conversation, then fine, I would talk about such subjects.

Still, on any first meetings, I tend to think it best to limit the conversation towards personality, hobbies and other such topics of interest that do not push buttons too much.

I feel like that strategy has worked for me, as I have a decent number of close friends with varying opinions.
I tend to like it.

I hung out with a staunch conservative at one point who loves her guns, and would talk about aiming at hunting gophers. I lost contact with her in a month.
