I am however reminded of the line from Rob Roy when they recovered cattle that had been stolen (except for one which had been slaughtered.) Rob says to slaughter one for his clan "They slaughtered one, they could have slaughtered two."

I'm thinking that if I was there I might have concluded "He stole the car, he could have keyed it too."
screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
