the landlord does have the right to terminate a contract if the leasee is violating the terms of the lease in some other manner or to simply state that they are terminating all the leases if it is a multi-family residence. The owner simply needs to state that they are preparing the property to be sold which is a possibility because it sounds like it is a single-family residence in this instance.

The landlords could also inspect the residence so frequently that it becomes a nuisance. Plus the landlord can also simply raise the rental rate the next time that the lease expires. Other than health and safety issues renters generally do not have many rights in any state.

I agree on the importance of keeping documentation, but I imagine that this could stay tied up in court long enough that Torch will need to find other housing.
