I also noticed elsewhere in this thread that the "slumlord has been letting the place fall down around your ears for the past ten years".

Did you ever try to resolve this a year into this mess? Two years?

Why wait ten years?

And why are you trying to find out (or use) personal information on this person, such as where her income comes from? If the roles were reversed, would that be OK with you?

What if the "slumlord" decides she's tired of dealing with you and starts digging into your background to find some reason to evict you, such as drug use on the property, or some other violation of your lease agreement? Even if you have nothing to hide, is her prying into your affairs going to be fine with you?

that's what I find most disturbing about this whole thing. The attempt to ruin someone who isn't doing the right thing with with a rental property.

Either start working on a Plan B, like moving, or inform the "slumlord" that you will be exercising your rights as listed in the link above (withholding rent and placing it in escrow, or repair-and-deduct).
