(42,649 posts)was sarcasm on my part. I am not one to classify "all Americans" or "all American actions" as anything. The US has done much good in its history, but the memory of good actions can be wiped out by subsequent bad actions. And in my opinion, many US citizens do not realize that the "history" that they often read is sanitized to present an image consistent with self-image rather than reality.
I agree with your 1960's analogy. We moved here in 1965 and my first memories were of the Civil Rights struggle. When you wrote:
